Sleep Wind Down Starts Hours Too Early
Wind Down dims the screen and quiets the iPhone hours before bedtime, because its schedule starts too early. The Sleep schedule — not the Wind Down toggle alone — sets that start time.

TL;DR / Quick Fix
Quick fix: open Health, then Sleep, and move the bedtime later or shorten Wind Down. Then check the Sleep schedule days, since a weekday schedule can start earlier than you expect and check the schedule again the next evening to confirm the new start time.
Follow these steps
- Open the Sleep schedule. Open the Health app, then Browse, then Sleep, then your Sleep Schedule. The bedtime shown there drives Wind Down, so an early bedtime means an early Wind Down.
- Move the bedtime to your real bedtime. Drag the bedtime later to the time you actually go to bed. Wind Down starts before bedtime by the Wind Down length, so a late bedtime pushes Wind Down later too.
- Shorten the Wind Down length. In the Sleep options, reduce Wind Down from a long period to a shorter one, such as 30 minutes. A shorter Wind Down starts closer to bedtime even if bedtime stays the same.
- Check the schedule for each day. Review the schedule day by day. A weekday bedtime that differs from the weekend one can make Wind Down start hours earlier on work nights than you expect.
- Check the Sleep Focus itself. Open Settings, then Focus, then Sleep, and confirm the schedule linked there matches the one you just fixed. A second schedule in Focus can override the Health schedule.
- Test the change tonight. Leave the new schedule in place for one evening and note when Wind Down starts. One real evening tells you more than the schedule preview, which can hide a day-specific setting.

What NOT to do
- Do not turn off Sleep entirely over an early Wind Down. Moving bedtime or shortening Wind Down keeps the sleep tracking you wanted, at the right hour.
- Do not set a fake bedtime to dodge Wind Down. A wrong bedtime corrupts your sleep record, while shortening Wind Down fixes the early start honestly.
- Do not change only the Wind Down toggle. The toggle does not set the start time, so the schedule underneath keeps starting early until you fix it.
- Do not ignore a different weekday schedule. Weekday and weekend bedtimes are separate, and the weekday one is the one that surprises people most.
