Report Impersonators
Someone is messaging your friends pretending to be you — or a celebrity is DMing fans with investment tips. Impersonation accounts steal trust by wearing someone else's face. Reporting them is quick, and knowing the signs protects you from the scam that follows.

TL;DR / Quick Fix
Quick fix: open the fake profile, tap the three dots, choose Report, then Pretending to be someone else. Ask friends to report it too — volume speeds up takedowns. Never engage with the impersonator; any reply confirms you are watching. Warn your real followers from your genuine account.
Follow these steps
- Confirm it is fake. Check the username letter by letter, follower count, and post history. Impersonators mimic names with subtle misspellings — the clone warning signs list the tells.
- Report as impersonation. Open the profile, tap Report, and choose the impersonation option. Pick whether it pretends to be you, someone you know, or a public figure.
- Rally reports from friends. One report is a whisper; twenty is a siren. Ask friends to report the same account — platforms prioritize volume.
- Warn your audience. Post from your real account: I have one account, this is it. Pin it so newcomers see the warning first.
- Document everything. Screenshot the fake profile, its posts, and any scam DMs. If money changed hands, you will need this for the full report steps.
- Watch for the catfish angle. Romance-flavored impersonation is catfishing with a famous face — the catfish verification tricks expose both.

What NOT to do
- Do not message the impersonator. Engagement tells them the account has an audience — report silently instead.
- Do not pay to get the account removed. Anyone offering takedowns for a fee is running a second scam.
- Do not assume the platform acts fast. Takedowns take days; your warning post protects people in the meantime.
- Do not share the impersonator's posts to mock them. Shares boost their reach — screenshots in your warning, not shares.
Frequently asked questions
What if they are impersonating a celebrity, not me?
Report it the same way — choose the public-figure option. You do not need to be the victim to report.
Can impersonators steal my photos?
They already have — public photos are copyable. Watermarking helps little; fast reporting helps most.
Will the platform tell me the outcome?
Sometimes you get a resolution notice, sometimes silence. Re-check the profile after a few days.
